Hello!

So, I have now officially decided to join the world of the bloggers! Now that I have moved away and everyone else seems to have moved even farther away, I decided maybe I should set up another network to talk to my family and friends. I am currently living in Jerome, Idaho and teaching freshman English and debate. I am active in my single's branch and just to keep me active they have put me as an activities chairperson. So... life is crazy but usually good.

Sorry I haven't been answering my phone! I've had this awful cold and I've sort of had no voice! (Which, for a girl who lives to talk, is a real killer!) Anyways... I'm a bit better, so I'll call you soon! Really! :)

Books, Books, and Books!!! Here are some of the books I have been reading lately...

Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens-- Great story of love, compassion, and sacrifice. I had a hard time getting through the middle part of the book as Dickens sets up his plot, but his portrayal of the French Revolution is startling and grim, yet the reader feels empathy because Dickens shows what has brought them to this point. The several sacrifices at the end made me choke up, especially when he sacrifices himself at the guillitine. I love the "girl fight" between the housekeeper and the French woman, as well. I'd recommend reading it.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde-- Wow, what an intense book! I knew the basic story plot already, but it was so different actually reading the progress of a man becoming more evil.I can see why it is considered one of the most religious books by some and an evil book by others. Great writing style and characterization, but I had to put it down for awhile and do something productive and good when I couldn't stand the main character after he did something so incredibly horrible. I would recommend reading it.
Serving Crazy With Curry by Amulya Malladi--Story of an Indian family living in California and the many issues they deal with including suicide, divorce,and unemployment. Also includes some Indian recipes. Interesting story with intriguing characters-adult situations and profanity.
Blankets by Craig Thompson: A graphic novel that shows the struggle of one young man growing up. It switches back and forth from childhood with his younger brother, his first love senior year of high school, to his introspection about religion. Profound and honest look at life and its complexities. Adult situations and some nudity.
A Jane Austen Education by William Deresiewicz: A memoir that describes how reading the 6 Jane Austen novels taught the author about life and how to be a better person. Well written, I had to finish it in one day! (of course I am a little prejudice since Jane Austen is my favorite author)
Rooftops of Tehran by Mahbod Seraji: A fictional story of a 17 year old boy who lives in Iran during the 1970s. His good friend rebels against the government and it shows how people deal with the Iranian government's reaction. Compelling coming of age, first love story that shows what life is like in Iran and shows a little why Iran is like it is today. Adult censored with adult situations and profanity.
Fables series by Bill Willingham: Graphic novels series where the characters from fairy tales live among humans. The plot is interesting, fast paced, and unique with lots of literary references. Content is adult rated with violence and nudity.
